Museum Barbara

This collection has a long history. I started it in the 80s as a present for Barbara. At the time it was still possible to find reproductions of 20th-century art in the internet. The Kandinsky pages were among the first. Today under the pressure of the Artists Rights Society (ARS) and its international affiliates images of the work of contemporary artists have all but disappeared from the web or have been reduced to mere thumb prints. The ARS vigorously prosecuted all violators of the copyright laws and shut down scores of websites including those of the museums.

In all consideration for the artists, this is a great loss for teachers and anybody who wants to educate himself. The result of this is clearly visible in these pages, as time progresses the completeness of my my presentation and the quality of the reproductions decreases. The pages for Kandinsky, Dali, Modigliani, Delveaux, or Gauguin could no longer be assembled today. A modern digital camera is of little help in this dilemma, it does not remove the legal predicament.

I finally decided to collect these treasures in an access protected website. I will gladly give the password to legimate individuals, - and I beg my friends, relatives and grandchildren for whose visual education this Museum was assembled, to honor my request and not link to, copy, or distribute the pictures and pages. I should add that the images included here are of sufficiently low quality as to prevent their being printed in any interesting size.

There are two notable exceptions: Gerhard Richter and Chihuly are not members of the ARS. They permit non-commercial copying from their extensive websites. I offer my gratitude to them.
