The town of Suzdal, northeast of Vladimir, is the jewel of the “Golden Circle”. An important town in competition with Novgorod in the 12th -14th century, it turned into a Sleeping Beauty during the following five centuries when the political power shifted to Moscow. It has been made into a museum, and tourists flock to it in large numbers. However, nowhere can you experience Russian architecture amid a village life which retained all its original color.
