Richter's Watercolors are a pure delight. Without titles, differentiated only by their date, they are small, painted on 16X24 cm paper. Every image differs from any other. The medium encourages separation of colors and prevents alterations by overpainting. Occasionally Richter overlays them with oil or crayon or draws lines in pencil on their surfaces. Compared to his multi-layered oils they are purely spontaneous, abstract creations of disarming simplicity. The small format greatly adds to their charm. Fleeting meditation exercises, pure visions unhampered by reality.
