Ghent
Museum Voor Schone Kunsten
A
smaller museum of primarily Flemish paintings. My memory produces
only two paintings attributed to Bosch – the overload! - The
first, although not dendro-dated, is certainly not by him, the second
he painted in the year of his father's death - Jerome was, of
course, Bosch's name's saint. - The museum has since been renovated
(2003), and its holdings may have been altered.
Attributed to Bosch, Christ Carrying the Cross and Veronica, 1535
It
is now generally assumed that his panel was painted in 1530-35, years
after Bosch's death. By whom has not been decided,
perhaps by
Quentin Massys?
Bosch, St. Hieronymus in Prayer, 1482
A
mortified Jerome van Aaken bemoans his sins of omission towards his
dead father.
According to Klein's dendrochronological analysis
this panel was painted 1482.
