Carel Willink (1900 - 1983)

On my birthday Marc drove us through picturesque country north of Amsterdam to a tiny village to introduce us to Carel Willink and the Magische Realism. - Now renamed to Sheringa Museum voor Magisch Realisme. The surprise was complete. How to characterize Willink's art, dead serious it hovers between antiqued landscapes and kitsch.... But you'll never forget his paintings.

Since Willinks death the museum has been operated by his formidable widow shown below in her younger years, who jealously guards her husband's oeuvre. Good reproductions, titles and dates are hard to come by.
