Dale Chihuly
Installations and Exhibitions
“My primary interest was to show off [our work] in the best light possible,” said Chihuly at the beginning of his career (1977), at a time when he was generally overlooked by the art critics. Glasblowing was considered art decorative, not suitable for exhibition in art museums. By the end of the 20th century he had become the celebrated creator of an exuberant l'art du verre. The breakthrough was a solo installation of his work in Venice, Italy (1995), followed by an equally magnificent exhibition in Jerusalem, Israel, (2000).
He discovered that his pieces worked well in garden and park environments and created installations all over the World. The following, non-exhaustive collection, taken from his new website, shows the diversity of his work.
